GLOBAL EDUCATION ON-LINE TRAINING-COURSE
North-South Centre new pedagogical tool
Following the launching of the Global Education Guidelines – on-line version (re-edition 2010) available from North-South Centre (NSC) website and hard copy available upon request – the NSC Global Education programme offered its first Global Education on-line training course in 2009. Since three courses are offered annually, in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
This introductory online training course on global education (GE), with a particular focus on human rights (HR), targets practitioners in the field of education and development, teachers, social and youth workers, as well as policy-makers, civil servants and local and regional authorities.
This four-week long online learning course involves 10 hours of learning per week, which includes reading, discussion and response to interactive exercises. It is based on approximately 150 pages of educational material that include a diversity of interactive individual and group exercises with coached assignments, a glossary and a virtual library as well as a discussion forum. Such exercises aim at developing competences in the fields of team-building, mapping of GE/HR situation in participants’ countries, GE/HR strategies and GE/HR activity development.
The overall evaluation of the pilot course is very positive, with a high rating of satisfaction among the participants’ evaluation questionnaire sent after each course, considering participants’ diverse professional and geographical background.

Participants professional background vary from Youth leaders, Educators, Civil Society activist, International organisations, Local Authorities and Ministries, from countries from all continents.

With this on-line training-course, the North-South Centre is reinforcing its capacity-building dimension within its Global Education programme and reinforcing its international networking strategy for more and better global education in Europe and beyond. It also responds to the Council of Europe strategy for Intercultural Dialogue.

Course
This global education online learning course is designed for education practitioners, social workers, youth activists, as well as policy and decision makers.
Please be aware that the course announced on this website regards an online learning course and does not involve any travelling. However, in order to participate, you need to have regular access to the Internet.
The course has been designed to complement the Global Education Guidelines, a pedagogical tool for educators and policy makers to understand and implement Global Education, and share with a wider audience concepts and approaches promoted by the North-South Centre’s Global Education programme.
This course, under the title "Global Education - The Human Rights Dimension", provides an introduction to human rights education as part of the Global Education context, and deals with its concepts, approaches, strategies and action, by considering its interconnections between the global and local.
Content
This course explores the ways of addressing the issues in theory and practice, reflecting on the ideal state considering the evidence from the reality, and developing new ways of understanding and promoting human rights education in the contexts of the participants.

- To strengthen the network of global and human rights education practitioners
For whom?
The course in general is targeted at people working in or with human rights education, either as part of international organisations, national educational institutions or those working for national and local civil society organisations. The course also welcomes students with a special interest in the topic.
Course requirements:
Please note that all participants should:
- be in command of the English language;
- be able to spend a minimum of 10 hours per week (every week) on course work;
- have basic ICT skills and a minimum of internet access.
By whom?
The course has been developed in partnership between the North South Centre (NSC) and The Network University.
North-South Centre's mandate is to provide a framework for North-South co-operation to increase public awareness of global interdependence issues and promote policies of solidarity in conformity with the aims and principles of the Council of Europe: respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
The Network University (TNU) facilitates innovative learning and capacity building for a global network of professionals, students, non-profit organizations, agencies and networks, specializing in creating e-tools for education and networking in the field of development.
Costs
The North South Centre will provide scholarships of 200 euro, corresponding to the course value. The scholarships will be granted to selected applications on the basis of quality of the application.
